Additional information

‘Jeux de Peau’, 2012, was exhibited in the group show ‘InterSections – science in contemporary art’, Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel, 2012. The work was generated from my ongoing research inquiry into the non-visual in visual art, conducted in this phase during a two-year research and production period at Monell Chemical Senses Centre and NextFab, Philadelphia. This period of research allowed me to push my scent-based work technically using the latest technology and expertise at the world renowned Centre for the Study of Taste and Smell and to develop a new body of work. I would also hope to be able to contribute to their community in some way, with my artistic training which like many science disciplines, also depends on observation. I am focused on working in the following labs: Pamela Dalton ( Experimental Psychology, interested in the cognitive and emotional processing of smell ) George Preti ( Chemistry of smell, especially human body odour ) Alongside this I am working at NextFab, part of the science park, described as “ a gymnasium for innovators”, to fabricate the work as part of a joint artist residency between the two organisations. This would be a very efficient way of developing technically complicated new work, an opportunity of which has never been available to me. I will be NextFab’s first international artist in residence, and Monell’s first ever artist in residence.
