Christian Doctrines in Islamic Theology (The History of Christian-Muslim Relations 10
If only one of the double-weighting requests is accepted, ‘Christian voices in Muslim theology’ should be assessed as reserve.
This book makes available for the first time to a non-specialist readership the responses of four major classical Muslim theologians to fundamental Christian doctrines. It is the fruit of expertise in Arabic language, medieval Islamic theological thought, and Christian-Muslim relations. It combines skills in editing Arabic manuscripts, translating Arabic theological texts, interpreting them and elucidating the difficult technical terms they contain, and situating them in their historical and religious contexts. Part of the research involved travel to Egypt to read manuscripts in Cairo and in a desert monastery outside Alexandria, and also consulting native Arabic speakers about textual cruxes.
