Additional information

<23>This paper brings closer the application of the theory of content-based image retrieval into real-world applications without downsizing image dimensions from 3D to 2D. The application provides further value added properties by improving the accuracy of a wide range of calculation and processing techniques. As a result of JISC funded projects MIRAGE and MIRAGE II, the work has paved the way for utilizing the original three-dimensional information captured in images and led to the funding of the EU FP7 WIDTH project to develop new generation of techniques for warehousing images in the digital hospitals.
