Additional information

In response to problems with unreliable forensic science evidence and the Law Commission’s Expert Evidence in Criminal Proceedings report (discussed in Part 1), this article considers a procedure designed to assist courts with their responses to expert evidence and engagement with scientists and scientific knowledge (from beyond the courtroom). The article advocates the formation of a multidisciplinary advisory panel to independent provide short reviews that might be used by lawyers and judges in their decision-making around the use and assessment of expert evidence, especially emerging technologies. Presented at Harvard University and the University of Toronto.
