Additional information

Forward osmosis is an emerging, low energy technique for the desalination of sea-water and brackish water. The work presented has established a simple thermodynamic benchmarking test, which will allow the evaluation of a portable emergency device for purifiying small amounts of brackish water. This methodology will have direct application in the assessment of future continuous FO systems, for which novel draw solutes and membranes are now being sought. The article has led to the filing of a patent entitled "Process " with ISIS innovation on Feb 12th 2013. United Kingdom Patent Application No. 1302441.9.
