Chromate reduction in Fe(II)-containing soil affected by hyperalkaline leachate from chromite ore processing residue
This paper relates to microbial processes in soils impacted by hyperalkaline wastes. It is the culmination of a partnership between the Environment and Nature team at Rambolls UK (Dr PG Studds), who have a commercial interest in remediating Cr(VI) contaminated land, and the authors, who are interested in microbiological processes in alkaline chromium contaminated groundwater. This work has directly informed remediation strategy being developed for the study site. It has involved a multidisciplinary team (Civil Engineer, Geochemist, Materials and Synchrotron Scientists) and was supported by STFC grants for synchrotron time on the Diamond Light Source (SP1493/1, SP7525/1).
