Angle dependent optical properties of polymer films with a biomimetic anti-reflecting surface replicated from cylindrical and tapered nanoporous alumina
This multi-disciplinary paper (Electronic Engineering and Chemistry) reports a novel type of anti-reflection structure with record low reflection at high angles of incidence when fabricated on polymer sheets used in LCD and other displays (a $1.3B per annum market) and a novel method, now patented, for their fabrication. The method will reduce the cost of the manufacture of anti-reflecting films as well as improving their performance. It has now been deployed in prototype product manufacture by a UK based company. This paper was selected as the cover story article for the March 2012 issue of the leading journal Nanotechology.
