Additional information
This paper details a novel approach to engine model generation, by using dynamic design of experiments in order to train a neural network model of engine CO2 emissions. This technique significantly reduces experimental procedures while producing much more robust time domain responses with higher model accuracy. Uniquely, this technique allows the capturing of the effects of engine thermal transient responses during engine warm-up, as experienced in real-world driving situations. The work was supported by IAV (Germany) and Akehurst's EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship (EP/C540883/1 and EP/C540891/1).
