The UK Standardisation of Breast Radiotherapy (START) Trial B of radiotherapy hypofractionation for treatment of early breast cancer: a randomised trial.
This internationally renowned substantial phase III clinical trial investigated the effects of hypofractionated radiotherapy in 2,215 women with early breast cancer at 23 centres in the UK and led to widespread changes of UK clinical practice. John Yarnold acted as Chief Investigator and contributed to patient recruitment; Judith Bliss (Clinical Trials and Statistics Unit) was the Chief Statistician with overall responsibility for trial methodological considerations and statistical analyses. Both collaborated on trial design and development, study conduct, data interpretation and writing the paper. This influential work demonstrates the ICR’s multidisciplinary team approach to research.
