Additional information

This study for the first time demonstrated the use of antibody functionalised quantum dots (QDs) for monitoring progenitor stem cell differentiation into mature, endothelial cells, that lead to restoration of biomolecular aspect of cardiovascular function in addition to the structural support presented by the synthetic scaffolds used in cases of tissue engineered cardiovascular implants. Antibody-functionalized QDs suggest new applications in a range of tissue engineering of polymer-based implants, where cell integration can potentially be monitored without requiring to sacrifice the implants.
