Additional information

In this work a novel in vitro 3D model for cancer was developed in collaboration with cancer biologists and clinicians. The 3D architecture of colorectal cancer, including a dense tumour mass within a ‘normal’ stroma tissue was engineered, and invasion of tumour cells into the stroma was established. In this paper we demonstrate the engineering of a biomimetic model of cancer which has the potential to be used as an in vitro tool for drug testing, as well as a competitive model for the current use of animal xenograft models.
