Additional information

Utilizing the properties of natural and synthetic scaffolding materials developed for Tissue engineering applications, we fabricated and tested in vivo a previously developed cell seeded hybrid construct consisting of a warp-knitted mesh of poly(lactic acid-cocaprolactone)(PLACL) coated with compacted type I collagen using a patented method. The construct was matured in vitro to develop a mature keratinocyte surface distribution like skin and tested in a lapine skin model. The results suggest that this could be used effectively in the initial stages of skin healing as a replacement for full thickness skin grafts.
