Magnetic-Resonance and Broadband Near-Infrared Spectroscopy.

There is an urgent need in identifying suitable bedside biomarkers of brain tissue wellbeing. In this study for the first time I have demonstrated using an optical near-infrared spectroscopy system and methodologies that I have developed; that is possible to measure an optical metabolic signal that is related to other markers of metabolism measured by magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Optical techniques are portable and can be used at the patient bedside. This was a truly multimodal study that involved many technologies and also multidisciplinary as it involved clinicians, engineers and physicists.
