Simulating a building as a people movement system
This is the first assessment of evacuation model use in egress analysis and the limitations given model capabilities and user expertise - bridging the gap between typical model descriptions and engineering practice. It led to a workshop at the conference on Pedestrian and Evacuation Dynamics, 2010 (peter.thompson@iesve.com, Dr. Thompson, Technical Director, IES), informed the ISO committee TC92/SC4/WG11 on developing egress scenarios (contact daniel.nilsson@brand.lth.se, Dr. Nilsson, Associate Professor, Lund University). It is part of an ongoing collaboration with authors from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (US) and Lund University (EU), as evidenced by several companion articles.
