Additional information

This paper describes a full chemical reaction mechanism for the modelling of biodiesel/kerosene blends. Unlike earlier models, which replaced the long chain biodiesel component with a simpler molecule, the molecule was modelled at its real length. The mechanism was used at the core of a larger model by the EU Network of Excellence, BCATS, to produce a unique database of aircraft emissions. The work has resulted in studies to evaluate the environmental impact of alternative fuels, specifically: The reactivity of exhaust emissions (Wiesen@uni-wuppertal.de), local air quality around airports (contact details available) and global climate change (D.S.Lee@mmu.ac.uk).
