This is the first paper to exploit uncertainty in an industrial design process that integrates manufacturing and operational costs. The resulting capability formed a major part of the foundation for the costing work in the RECREATE FP7 project and is one of the core work projects that led to the early formulation of the Value Driven Design initiative. This led to an invited presentation of the work at the 1st UK workshop on Value Driven Design and attendance at the NSF workshop on Complex System Design Washington 2010.
