Additional information
This work was funded by the British Council in collaboration with Parma University (Italy) and Cranfield University. It comprises a thorough investigation using FTIR, TIRE and AFM into the feasibility of discriminating between genomic DNA of different species of fish (salmon and herring) by hybridisation of respective DNA single strands on the surface of a gold-coated glass slide. This methodology has potential applications in food quality control, for example the recent international horse meat scandal.
