A highly efficient and practical means of providing autonomous control efforts for spacecraft attitude manoeuvres is described. This paper is the first to implement a tangent-based tracking function with a family of Lyapunov functions. The main contribution is to incorporate input constraints in the controller design to obtain realistic torque values. The paper was instrumental in securing a European Space Agency contract (GMVAD 04-08) through GMV (Contact: Mariella.Graziano@gmv.es) to research distributed agents for autonomy.
