Additional information

Despite their importance to biology and industrial processing, the viscoelastic properties of semiflexible polymer solutions are still not well understood and an analytical model had not been described. This paper provides experimental evidence that the effective medium approximation provides the correct scaling law in the highly entangled regime. The research underpinned Dr Tassieri's EPSRC Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship (Reference 10216/101) and has had impact in collaborations with the plastics and petrochemical industries (e.g. ENI-versalis) enabling the optimization of the processing of complex materials (Contact: salvatore.coppola@versalis.eni.com).
