Green's functions in computational aeroacoustics
Significance of output:
Aircraft noise is a significant barrier to quality of life and competitiveness. This paper extends and completes the theory of acoustical Green's functions for uniform flows. The comprehensive set of results and transformation rules obtained allows sound field predictions to be extrapolated from any computational simulation of noise generation in uniform flow, a procedure which has gone from being an academic exercise to an industrial design technique for aircraft manufacturers in less than a decade. The results are also important in acoustical inverse methods where microphone arrays act as an 'acoustic telescope' to localise problematic noise sources
