Three-dimensional phase unwrapping using the Hungarian algorithm.
Presents work on 3D phase unwrapping in support of the 3D surface metrology work pioneered in LIL15-2. Originally for use in optical measurement, the algorithm has seen wide industrial and academic-research take-up in other fields, for example: medical (e.g. MRI tomographic scanning) and geophysics (e.g. astro-geological geodesic mapping). The algorithm is both highly robust and computationally efficient; it still outperforms several competitors four years after its publication. The wider research signicicance of this paper is atested to by the fact that the algorithm described has been independently translated into Python by other researchers for incorporation in the SciPhy numerical library.
