Additional information

This article surveys missionary debates about polygamy and divorce over a period of hundred years. It draws on transnational and postcolonial analyses to show how the Anglican Communion came to tolerate alternative marriage structures in 1988. The article thus has the potential to make a significant impact on contemporary debates about religion and sexual politics. The Journal of Religious History is a highly respected international journal.
