Additional information

This is a co-edited volume; the product of a Faculty of Classics Laurence Seminar held in May 2010 which debated issues raised by field-survey and geophysical work on Roman towns over the last decade. Johnson and I designed the programme. Speakers were asked to address topics raised in a pre-circulated position paper which I wrote. We shared editing the texts; Johnson oversaw the illustrations and Millett liaised with the publisher. We jointly authored an ‘Introduction’’ (1-6) and the book includes a substantial overview from me ‘Understanding Roman Towns in Italy: reflections on the role of geophysical survey’ (24–44).
