Additional information

The paper is the most recent research output from a long-standing (10 year) international research collaboration with the University of Girona, Spain [joseluis.marzo@udg.edu]. The core research of the partnership has addressed the specifics of restoration in Multi-Protocol-Label-Switched (MPLS) networks via researcher exchange between Strathclyde and Girona and has, to date, resulted in the graduation of three jointly supervised PhD students since 2007 and 8 other journal publications. The focus of this particular research output is on generic survivability and it provides a novel measure for robustness that considers both services and underlying topology ability to endure multiple network failures.
