Additional information

Engineers within ScottishPower Energy Networks (SPEN) required automated analysis of alarms and other data sources to support post-fault and performance analysis of power system protection. For many years they desired a flexible system whose intelligence built upon their databases of network information and self-configured the reasoning appropriately. The research provided this through a novel alarm processing approach, and resulted in SPEN employing the PhD student [Catherine Edwards, cedwards@scottishpower.com] as a full-time Project Engineer within the System Monitoring unit in Transmission Operations, to develop and implement the system for their operational engineers [Ian.Watt@SPPowerSystems.com].
