Additional information

Part of an international renewable energy project, funded by QNRF [QatarNPRP-4-250-2-080, £150k, 2012-2014] and collaborative with Dr Massoud [ahmed.massoud@qu.edu.qa] of Qatar University, this research investigated the use of dc-to-dc converters for the efficient extraction of energy from PV cells. Several efficient converter topologies, with highly desirable features, were realised and are currently being exploited under agreement by Spiretronic LLC [spiretronic.com ], Houston, Texas, USA. As a result of this collaborative research, this paper showed that hitherto unacknowledged families of converters with novel input and output features could evolve.
