This research formed the cornerstone of an invited talk at the Materials Research Society fall-meeting 2013 (Boston). It led to an activity on hybrid light-emitting diodes, which contributed to an EPSRC Programme Grant award [EP/K00042X/1, 2012-2016, £4.6M] as well as a Platform Grant [EP/I029141/1, 2011-2015, £1M], and to a multidisciplinary project that Strathclyde lead on organic laser biosensors. This involves a doctoral student, collaborators at Strathclyde Chemistry (UoA8) [peter.skabara@strath.ac.uk; glenn.burley@strath.ac.uk], a clinical advisor from NHS R&D [Chris.Packard@glasgow.ac.uk] and has already produced outputs (Sensors&Actuators B, 185, 132-139, 2013).
