Additional information

The reported mechanically-flexible laser, based on colloidal semiconductor nanoparticles, will enable emerging applications such as wearable (bio)-sensors. The research resulted in an invited talk at the IEEE Nanoconference (Portland, 2011) and was an Editor’s Pick, in the 50th anniversary special edition of Applied Physics Letters (2012), of papers published in the journal between 2009 and 2012. These results also underpinned the award of an EPSRC First Grant [EP/J021962/1, 2012-2014, £99k] on hybrid quantum dot lasers for flexible photonics.
