This research led to an invited talk (2009 International Laser Physics Workshop, Barcelona). Notably, in a Laser Focus World magazine cover story ("Blue laser diodes pump Ti:sapphire" Sept 2012), KM Labs Inc. [Chief Scientist: SBackus@kmlabs.com] state that this paper "inspired" them to begin commercialisation. They describe direct diode-laser pumping - first reported in this output - as a "crucial milestone in the history of Ti:sapphire laser development". The paper also led M-Squared Lasers Ltd [CEO: Malcolm, graeme@m2lasers.com] to work with Strathclyde on commercialisation for biological imaging applications via a TSB award [101495, 2013-15, £354k].
