Additional information

This paper presents a rigorous description of a new intelligent Empirical Mode Decomposition  (EMD) based filtering process designed for suppressing noise in non-linear environments. This was the first EMD tool that can distinguish between noise and signal at low frequencies. Since publication, the methods have been effectively used with an industry partner as the proposed signal conditioning component in a successful project [TSB, £770k, 2013-15] with the 'bionic' prosthesis company Touch BIONICS Ltd L [CTO, hugh.gill@touchbionics.com] for advanced pattern recognition technology for multi-articulating prosthesis.
