Additional information

This paper is co-authored with an industry colleague from Weidlinger Associates (USA) and details a new design and fabrication approach for conformable ultrasonic transducer arrays with potential application for the automated inspection of complex shaped components. This research has led to a number of industry collaborative projects on ultrasonic array research: EPSRC, Rolls Royce Aerospace (2010-13) [EP/H001387/1, £442k]; EPSRC, Shell, National Nuclear Laboratory, AMEC, Rolls Royce Aerospace, Weidlinger Associates (2011-14) [EP/I019731/1, £264k], Doosan Energy Systems EngD sponsorship (2011-15), [colin.bird@doosan.com]; Rolls Royce Aerospace PhD Studentship support (2012-15) [tony.dunhill@rolls-royce.com,]; and EoN PhD studentship support (2013-14) [Colin.Brett@eon-uk.com].
