Additional information

This paper was a result of an industry-funded project (CTC Marine- Deep Ocean) to improve the understanding of offshore pipeline plough performance. The findings and techniques in the paper are cited in the keynote lecture by White & Cathie (david.cathie@cathie-associates.com) at the 2010 International Symposium on Frontiers in Offshore Geotechnics. This work developed a new model describing change in tow force with velocity, for a variety of siliceous sand conditions. This has led to improved methods for predicting dimensionless plough tow force/velocity relationships that can be used by industry and applied to full scale operations (Mark.Finch@senergyworld.com).
