Significance of output:

Behavioural avoidance to hydrodynamic conditions (e.g. accelerating velocity gradients) is advantageous at screens designed to deflect fish away from hazardous areas, e.g. turbine intakes, but problematic when they cause delay at the entrance to fish passes. This study describes research to explore the use of alternative a multimodal stimuli (e.g. light source) to either mask or reinforce the effects of hydrodynamic induced avoidance needed to improve screening and fish passage efficiency.
