Use of Digital Manufacturing to Improve Management Learning in Aerospace Assembly
This paper examined Digital Manufacturing in the context of organisational learning. Pre 2008 papers in the area covered general engineering applications but this material published the first quantified benefits of DM methods in terms of the impact of learning and knowledge acquisition on the assembly time and cost for an aircraft panel. Based on the findings of this research, Bombardier aerospace Belfast have implemented a system for delivering animated build sequences from the CAD environment, direct to work cells on the shop floor (Ref. Robert Burke, Director Manufacturing Engineering & Tooling, Bombardier Aerospace Belfast).
