<22> This paper establishes a novel framework for constrained global optimisation that may be applied to a huge range of practical optimisation problems. This optimisation framework was used to optimise mathematical models of plant gravitropism in the multi-disciplinary Centre for Plant Integrative Biology (CPIB), one of BBSRC's flagship centres for systems biology. A practical application of this framework has also been reported in a paper entitled "Root gravitropism is regulated by a transient lateral auxin gradient controlled by a tipping-point mechanism", which appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in 2012.
