Life cycle assessment of biohydrogen and biomethane production and utilisation as a vehicle fuel
A Life-cycle approach was adopted to assess the environmental impact and energy output of bio-hydrogen and bio-methane production as a vehicle fuel from food waste or wheat feed. Increased energy output and reduced environmental burdens were deduced for the two-stage treatment of wheat feed compared to a single-stage process. The study highlighted the environmental benefit of the use of the fuel gas produced from these processes compared with diesel as a transport fuel. The work was funded by the CymruH2Wales project, part of the ERDF funded LCRI Convergence Energy Programme and the Wales Centre of Excellence for Anaerobic Digestion.
