Double-weighted statement

Of the five criteria that apply to justify a double-weighted research output, four are met by the 2010 book Duke Ellington’s America (577pg + 111pg). This unprecedented study, assembled over a period of more than a decade, argued that Ellington served as a significant historical figure in addition to his musical achievements. It entailed years of research in several American archives, and featured two dozen oral history interviews as new primary sources. Portions of two chapters were published in 2004 and submitted to RAE 2008, but were revised for the book; the other fourteen chapters consist of entirely new material.
