Additional information

This paper realised a significant goal - to determine whether insonation can give rise to genotoxic damage in the form of DNA double strand breaks. The paper thus has significant impact to the medical safety arena, and also provides a scientific basis for earlier observations that pulsed ultrasound on fragile targets can be genotoxic. The paper also proceeds to identify the pathways activated by ultrasound damage, and discriminates these from those formed due to ionising radiation, the gold standard assay for calibration purposes. I designed the experiments with PI Kondo, and wrote the paper with the primary author.
