Additional information

This paper takes a unique multilevel hierarchical approach to quantifying water movement during stress relaxation, and provided some of the first nano- and micro-level analysis of water exudation. The fundamental importance of this information has ensured the paper has elicited considerable interest, particularly from mathematical modelling researchers. The work has led to a collaboration with internationally-leading modelling colleagues in Utah (Prof Weiss) and his award of the ASME 2013 Van Mow Medal. We have already submitted one joint grant application (decision pending), and have instigated a PDRA exchange programme between the two universities.
