Additional information

The CMS detector, which is used to study collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN is one of the largest engineering exploits ever undertaken for science. I have led a group that contributed to the design, construction and commissioning of the endcap electromagnetic calorimeter (a detector of high-energy electrons and photons) and silicon tracker and large scale grid computing resources of CMS since 1995. This paper details our baseline technical detector description. The work was supported by STFC (PP/E000479/1), led to three PhD theses which I supervised and has won further STFC support (ST/F007434/1, ST/K001639/1, ST/I505580/1).
