English abstract

The article examines the mythical story of the members of Hitler’s First World War regiment (the 16th Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment, also known as the List Reigmnet) being virtuous and law-abiding ‘heroes’ who stood in contrast to the criminality of Jews, Socialists, and Democrats as propagated by Mein Kampf and other post-war accounts. Subsequently, it contrasts the mythical story with the break-down of law and order in Hitler’s military unit based on the collections of the Bavarian War Archive as well as an array of other archives
