Double-weighted statement

The production of this output relied on the extensive use of primary material gathered from two archives: the John Cage Collection (Northwestern University, Evanston, IL) and the David Tudor Papers (Getty Research Insitute, Los Angeles, CA). Extensive visits were required to both, including two separate month-long visits to the Getty. The work required the collection and analysis not only of the complete Cage-Tudor correspondence (which makes up a fifth of the total 100,000-word length of the volume, not including the accompanying commentaries and footnotes), but also a complete analysis of Tudor’s (sometimes Byzantine) approaches to Cage’s determinate and indeterminate scores.
