This study aims to develop an objective optical approach for evaluating the functionality of respiratory system. The work is based on an NIHR funded project ‘Novel Non-invasive Assessment of Respiratory Function’ and collaborated with local hospitals to find out a flexible way to monitor and assess the pulmonary function and rib cage distortion, especially for those patients with severe difficulty in conventional cooperative tests. One PhD student is finalizing his study from this work. The further work will be extended into the assessment of respiratory muscle disorders and human face expressions.
