Additional information

Power line communication (PLC) has attracted a lot of interest in indoor and outdoor data communication, especially in smart grid applications. Mass deployment of PLC has been hampered by electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and coexistence with other technologies. This paper introduced a three dimension diversity technique to PLC. By coding in space, frequency, and time, the technique enable PLC to transmit at high data rate using very low transmit power, hence reduce unwanted interference. This work, published in one of the the main IEEE journal for PLC systems, has a far reaching impact on future PLC systems. Mutliwire (MIMO) technique introduced here is currently being considered for inclusion in the standard.
