Additional information

The exhibited illustrations comprise part of a major work-in-progress, an international book publication on traditional approaches to Yoga. This aspect of the work examines the notion of illustrating the unseen by exploring the use of images and text in the illustrative communication of subject matter that is beyond the boundaries of current knowledge, or is otherwise elusive, intangible or ambiguous.

The book is authored by Anna Bhushan with project advisors Mr. A.L.V. Kumar of Traditional Yoga and Dr. Sean Kerr, of UC Berkeley. The publication involves re-examination of the Buddha’s Ashtanga Magga and Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga. The book explores issues of perception, subjectivity and objectivity, the seen and unseen. The text and image work communicates a philosophical framework and method of practice primarily based on the teachings of Buddha, Patanjali and Shakaracharya. The book’s illustrations explore possibilities, testing and exposing ways that image/text relationships function.
