Additional information

Reports results of large collaborative EPSRC project GR/R80087/01 to investigate commercially viable means of producing highly oriented polyoxymethylene for wire rope applications. Understanding and optimisation of process parameters that control damage in die-drawn material has enabled order of magnitude increase in production speed. Results sufficiently encouraging for major collaborating company (Bridon) to set up prototype facility to produce nearly 70km of polyoxymethylene wire for deep sea mooring trials (Contact: Johannes Verwaayen, Technical Director, Bridon – verwaayenj@bridon.com). Has led to invited presentations at the Universities of Oxford (15/2/10), Cambridge (3/6/10) and IISc, Bangalore (4/8/11).
