Fatigue and fracture of many engineering materials, including aerospace aluminium, occurs though process of void coalescence and growth. Previously many attempts have been made to find fracture criterion for this process that can be used in finite-element simulations but most only work for limited loading configurations. Paper develops criterion that gives good predictions of crack growth for general combinations of in-plane and out-of-plane loading.
