Additional information

This paper presents the concept of using fractional order holds to control the milling operation. It then presents a framework for intelligently modifying the parameters of the control schema. The paper publishes some of the base technology being developed as part of the machining control strand of the EPSRC funded project (EP/I033424/1), Centre for Innovative Manufacturing. The associated work, also published in journals and peer-reviewed conferences, is leading to a metrology-driven scheme allowing self-optimisation of the milling parameters.
