This paper results from EPSRC First Grant (Ref EP/F02956X/1, £374,952, 2008-2011) held by S. Boscolo. It led directly to 2 more journal papers including the invited review paper 10.1155/2009/181467, and various conference presentations including invited talks at the International Workshop on Dissipative Solitons and the International Conference on Solitons, Collapses and Turbulence. The results obtained led to the award of a British Council Collaborative Research Grant (Ref 10.002, £4,400, 2010-11) to S. Boscolo to work with Prof C. Finot (Burgundy University, Dijon, France).
