Effect of nano-scale crystal field on the broadening of Er3+- emission in sodium tellurite glass ceramics
The article focusses on the fundamental aspects quantum mechanical effects on spectroscopic line broadening in rare-earth ion doped glass/glass-ceramic materials and the materials structure. The aim is to design broadly tuneable athermal lasers for micro-sensor, medicine and optical communication applications. The materials engineering approach has been adopted for glass-semiconductor integrated device (doi:10.7452/lapl.201110101) – an idea which has become the main focus for commercial device engineering in KTP (Ref.8773) and TSB (TS/K000977/1) projects with British Glass in a UK-industry consortium. Materials development has contributed towards the engineering of random lasers for blood glucose monitoring (GB2010/051514, WO-Patent-2,013,117,941) patents and an NIHR grant (II-FS-0909-13095).
